Kimberly,

I left you a voicemail yesterday around noon and was tied up in a meeting all afternoon yesterday.  I placed a call to DOE yesterday in regards to this.

The liaison called me back this morning – they will be making announcements sometime in the next two weeks.  You should have received, or will receive today, a notice stating that all current grantees will be given a 2 month no-cost extension.  You can continue operating the program as normal.

Let me know if you have any questions or if you do not receive this notice today or tomorrow and I will follow up.

Nicky

Good Morning:

I sent the attached message yesterday with no response.  Could you please contact me today as early as possible to let me know what you know of the funding slate for TRIO Educational Opportunity Center at California State University Fresno, which is in Congressman Nunes district.

We have been advised to ask for your assistance in intervening with USDE on our behalf to release funding notifications.

Please contact me at your earliest convenience.

Hi Nicky:

I put a call into your office first thing this morning.  We have been awaiting notification of funding slate for Educational Opportunity Center, our TRIO college access program that outreaches to adults via community outreach.  As they are based with us at Fresno State Campus, we are in Mr. Nunes district and have been given direction in the attached email to have Mr. Nunes office contact USDE to urge them to release the slate.

Staff have only 2 more days left to work on the current grant funding which ends on 08/31/2011.

Please help us by researching this and intervening on our behalf.

Please cc Mr. Nunes.  Thank you.

This message was transmitted via Congress Plus at 11:30am today.

August 29, 2011

Dear EOC Colleagues:

We understand that the majority of you are operating under grants that expire on August 31, 2011 – just two days from now.  COE has had numerous conversations with the Department of Education about this. While we cannot tell you what day grant award notifications will be released, we can only assure you that Department personnel are making their best efforts to transmit the information as soon as possible.

At this moment, the delay in results is not a question of funding as the FY 2011 appropriations process is complete. Rather, it’s a matter of bureaucratic processes.

The only advice we can give you at this moment is to contact your Member of Congress and urge them to pressure the Department of Education to release grant award notifications as soon as possible.

We share your concerns and frustration and hope that these matters will be resolved as quickly as possible.

Sincerely,

Arnold Mitchem

President
