It is time to nominate TRiO students and colleagues for the 2011 WESTOP AWARDS to be presented at the annual conference in Las Vegas, NV. Below you will find a description of each award and its respective application is attached to this email. We are fortunate to have many WESTOP members who are worthy of being recognized at our annual conference. Please take the time to submit your nominations!

 

The deadline to submit applications is January 28, 2011. Due to the short notice deadline, it is recommended that you fax or email me the applications. I’m looking forward to receiving and reviewing many applications.

2011 WESTOP AWARDS

 

Steve Holeman Award

The Steve Holeman Award recognizes a Director of an educational equity program who demonstrates continuing dedication to the cause of educational excellence and equity, concern for the development of their students’ potential, and professionalism in the administration of their program.

 

Service Award

The Service Award recognizes dedication of service by a Director and/or staff member from an educational equity program. This award is presented in celebration of WESTOP’s 32 years of contributions toward educational excellence and equity for students.

 

Staff of the Year Award

The Staff of the Year Award recognizes a staff member from an educational equity program who has demonstrated continuing dedication to ensure educational equity, concern for the development of his/her students’ potential, and professionalism in implementing services or activities in his/her program and community.

 

Friends of WESTOP Award

The Friends of WESTOP Award recognizes the support given to WESTOP by an individual, company or organization who shares the association’s belief in educational excellence and equality.

 

WESTOP Achievers Award

The WESTOP Achievers Award recognizes the accomplishments of educational equity students who have completed their baccalaureate degree, entered professional fields, and whose community or professional activities have served their fellow human beings and are focused on the improvement of society.

 

Peggy J. Whitehead Scholarship Award

Mrs. Peggy J. Whitehead began her career with the U.S. Department of Education in 1965. For the following 37 years, she worked tirelessly for the good of TRIO students until her retirement in 2002. To recognize and honor Peggy’s commitment and dedication to TRIO students, the Western Association of Educational Opportunity Personnel (WESTOP) created the Peggy J. Whitehead Scholarship Fund. This fund was created to assist TRIO high school seniors with their educational goals.
