Daniel Hernandez, Praised by President Obama, Is a Former Pima CC Student

Tucson, AZ – Daniel Hernandez, who was praised on Monday by President Obama for his actions in the minutes following the shooting of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, is a former student of Pima Community College.

Daniel will be part of the program during President Obama’s visit to Tucson.

Daniel is a graduate of PCC’s Upward Bound program. The TRIO Upward Bound program is a federally funded college prep program designed to serve low-income, first-generation college students.

This program is designed for freshman or sophomore students attending selected high schools, who meet federal income guidelines, who need academic assistance to graduate high school and pass AIMS, and whose parents have not graduated from a four-year university.

After graduating from Upward Bound, Daniel attended Pima Community College. He is attending the University of Arizona.

President Obama on Monday praised Daniel, a 20-year-old intern to Rep. Giffords, and others for “extraordinary courage.”
