CenCal Members, a couple clarifications from the previous email I sent out last night:
#1 the cencal website is www.westopcencal.com, I keyed in the wrong address.

#2 TRiO DAY 2011/ Student Leadership Conference has been moved to SATURDAY MARCH 12th, 2011, not March 26th, 2011.  It was a better day to secure facilities and so forth at Cal Poly, either way attempt to start the conversation with your programs on sending your participants out to the event.

#3  As you may have seen the Westop Conference Information went up this morning,  here is the CVENT link for the 2011 Westop Conference in Las Vegas, NV:
http://www.cvent.com/EVENTS/Info/Summary.aspx?i=d9e2d176-000d-4461-ace8-575388fbfd02
If you register before December 17th, 2010 it will be $375 per paid member, or by January 28th, 2011 $425, and after $525, so plan accordingly to meet the early deadline.  Hotel rates, agenda, deadlines, etc are all there as well.

Greetings CenCal Members,

I wanted to take a few minutes to update you on what's going on with our Chapter and the Westop Pipeline, as many of us are busy with our own jobs, but also asking for certain information and when it will be out:

1)  Westop Conference Update-  I have received a handful of emails from our membership asking about the Westop Conference Registration and information not being sent out yet.  I know they had sent an email saying that it would be out on 10/31, and nothing has followed.   I spoke to someone from the board and they let me know that hopefully by the end of this week the CVENT and registration form & early bird will be out, we'll keep our fingers crossed as I know many of your offices need the information out with time to process payment and discuss who is going from your programs.  This year the Westop Conference will be at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino from February 27-March 2nd, 2011.  Also the call for papers, should be out soon for those offices who want to present.  All information should be up soon at: www.westop.org.

2)  CenCal Scholarship/s- Jenny Amaro, scholarship chair has sent out the CenCal Scholarship a few weeks back, and I hope all your programs have been getting your participants to apply.  Remember the deadline to send back the completed packet postmarked is coming up, Monday December 6th, 2010.  To download the scholarship you can get it on the CenCal Website under scholarships www.cencalwestop.com, again please encourage your participants from all of our programs to apply if you are a paid member.  If you would like to join Jenny's committee contact her at [log in to unmask].

3)  TRiO Day/ Student Leadership Conference - we should be hearing from Luis and Jesus pretty soon with payment option & plans on the event.  So far they've gotten a lot done, but for now plan on sending your participants on Saturday March 26, 2011 to Cal Poly SLO for the combined events.  If you would like to join Jesus's Trio Day Committe his email is [log in to unmask] or Luis Gonzalez SLC Chair at [log in to unmask].

4)  Policy Seminar in DC - they sent out the information on the Council for Opportunity in Education's 31st Annual Policy Seminar, March 6-8, 2011 at Omni Shoreham Hotel in Washington, DC.  Do we as a chapter want to send a representative or two to it this year or are you planning on attending on your own account?  I know it falls very close to the Westop Conference, but I would be ok going but want to see who is interested.

5)  Summer Jam 2011 - Although we are 7 months away from June 2011, the CenCal Chapter needs someone to chair the event.  Last year it was done in the Fresno Area, hosted by Reedley College and in years past we have done one year here, one year outside of Fresno and so forth.  Any campus who or person who is willing to take on this event????

6)  Website Updates-  Under the Central Cal Highlights section we have the PDS winners announced as well as baby additions, and retirement of 2 of our CenCal Colleagues highlighted, as well as the letter we received from Jim Costa and other archive postings.  When you get a chance or have someone or an event your program coordinated forward the information to me along with a paragraph or photos of the event you want mentioned.  Also don't forget to download the CenCal Scholarship. The website is www.cencalwestop.org.

7) Next CenCal Meeting - will be on Friday, January 28th at CSUMB.  Please plan accordingly to attend although its a few months away.

Other than that,  best of luck with your APR's for those of you working on them diligently, and all participants applying for colleges this month!
