We are writing to you to strongly encourage you to reach out to your Senator who sits on the Appropriations Committee. (A list of Senate Appropriators is attached.) Over the next couple of weeks, the Appropriations Committees in the House and Senate will begin writing the funding legislation for Fiscal Year 2011. Given the tough economic and political climate, legislators will only be willing to pour additional funds into programs like TRIO if they receive significant feedback from their constituents. Therefore, it's crucial that all TRIO supporters - personnel, alumni, students, and parents - let their appropriators know that we need a significant increase in FY 2011!


To aid you in this process, we have set up a webpage that will allow you to send a pre-written message to your legislator. The website also has a list of talking points for your convenience. Feel free to share this link with others.


Don't forget that your legislators will also be back home for the next two weeks for their Independence Day recess. This is the perfect time to schedule a meeting with them. A sample meeting request letter is available on our Government Relations Bulletin Board.
