 Celebrate the 25th Annual National Night Out The 25th Annual "National
Night Out" (NNO), is a unique crime and drug prevention event in which local
police departments will team-up with citizens from the community who will
host block parties in an effort to raise community awareness. Last year's
National Night Out campaign involved citizens, law enforcement agencies,
civic groups, businesses, neighborhood organizations and local officials
from over 10,000 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian
cities and military bases worldwide. In all, over 35 million people
participated in National Night Out in 2007. "National Night Out is a great
opportunity to get better acquainted with your friends and neighbors in
order to strengthen community bonds. Providing information to help empower
individuals to fight crime and drugs will not only benefit the local
neighborhoods and cities, but the entire central valley," said Aghazarian.
   National Night Out is designed to:
* Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness;
* Generate support for, and participation in, local anticrime programs;
* Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and
* Send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are
organized and fighting back.

Please contact your local Police Department non-emergency line to get more
information about how you can host a party or where the nearest block party
is being held. Assist a Deserving Family in Need The producers of
ABC's Extreme Makeover: Home Edition are looking for deserving families in
the Sacramento and Central Valley area. Ty Pennington and his designers have
visited all areas of the country and want to put the central valley of
California on the map. If you know a deserving family, please e-mail a short
description of their family story to Jason Hammonds at
[log in to unmask] The family must own their own home and should be
able to show how the make over of their home will make a huge difference in
their lives. Email nominations should also include the names and ages of all
family members in the home, a description of the major obstacles needing to
be overcome within the home, an explanation of why the family is "deserving,
heroic, or a positive role model in their community," photos of the family
and the home, and a contact phone number. Nominations are due by August 8th.
