Review of applications begins January 27, 2006 Essential Functions Administrative: Design, plan, develop, supervise, administer, evaluate and document all Student Support Services (SSS) program activities and services. Identify, determine eligibility and select participants for the SSS program. Provide input and make recommendations in administrative and academic policies. Implement an integrated approach to assessing students' individual needs, services delivery and monitoring students' academic progress. Select, develop, collect, compile, manage, analyze, evaluate and supervise program database. Coordinate the day-to-day operations of the SSS program. Maintain records and files as required by Department of Education. Prepare and submit quarterly and annual reports. Define, assess and report learning outcomes. Represent the interests of the program in regional and national professional associations. Budget Management: Prepare, document, monitor and administer SSS budget. Confer with university staff concerning budgetary questions and keep informed of program updates. Plan and project program budget expenditures. Establish proper and required paper documentation for all project expenditures. Negotiate budget with Department of Education. Prepare and submit continuation budgets as required by Department of Education. Confer with Student Academic Services (SAS) Director and SAS Budget Analyst regarding program budget. Plan and monitor expenditures for appropriate and effective fiscal management of budget resources. Academic Services: Provide academic and personal advising; establish a timeline for annual scheduled advising activities; contact and advise program participants from the time of admission through graduation. Provide intrusive advising assistance to program participants. Monitor academic progress of students. Provide assistance with course scheduling. Work with students to develop skills in time management, test preparation, test taking and textbook processing. Plan and promote graduate school visits. Participate in annual Open House and summer pre-enrollment academic advising activities. Maintain current and accurate records. Prepare annual reports regarding academic and personal advising. Staff Supervision, Training and Education: Recruit, hire, train and evaluate all professional and temporary staff. Assign projects, tasks, assignments and functions to all program staff. Provide timely and constructive performance evaluations. Provide opportunities for professional development. Confer with university personnel regarding recruitments and employee policy. Grant Management: Research, write and prepare project grant funding proposal. Prepare and write performance and continuation reports for Department of Education. Develop end of year and other performance reports as required by host institution. Develop reports and maintain data necessary to achieve compliance with Department of Education requirements. Ensure project objectives and partnership agreements are in compliance with Department of Education. Solicit institutional support and commitment to the program objectives. Other Duties: Participate on university and community committees and network with other campus offices and departments in delivering services to program participants. Collaborate with Student Academic Services Director, Vice President for Student Affairs and other campus personnel in identifying student needs and developing retention strategies. Responsibilities may also include teaching or substitute teaching in first year seminar courses. Essential Requirements Education Master's degree in education, educational psychology, counseling, psychology, social work or closely related field plus four years of progressively responsible student services professional experience required. Experience . Experience in program planning, implementation and administration. . Experience in reviewing and acting upon the most difficult individual and organizational problems. . Experience in training, mentoring and supervising staff. . Experience in budget administration and management. . Experience in providing lead person expertise to a staff group. Direct working experience in effective team coordination and demonstrable collaboration skills. . Experience with analyzing program and division problems, as well as recommending and implementing proposed solutions. . Proven ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing including 1:1, small group and large group. Must possess strong grant proposal and report writing skills. . Extensive experience with academic and personal counseling/advising, especially with low-income, first generation college-bound and/or college students. . Experience and sensitivity working with multi-cultural, low-income, disabled and/or first-generation populations. . Must be able to maintain positive rapport with staff, administrators, students and parents including individuals with backgrounds traditionally underrepresented in post-secondary education. . Working knowledge of on-line computer systems and experience with word processing, spreadsheets and databases. . Must be able to work in a high energy, diverse and demanding environment and respond in a positive, supportive and professional manner. . Must possess up-to-date knowledge of contemporary theories of student development. . Working knowledge of informal and formal assessment procedures. Demonstrated ability to use analytical skills for designing learning assessments, interpreting results and making recommendations for future planning. . Must possess strong organizational skills. . Continued professional development expected. . Experience with a TRIO program or other educational equity program is desirable.
