Creating or Changing a LISTSERV Welcome Message
(02.18.00)

You can create or change your LISTSERV Welcome Message using a web browser or via email.

To create or change a LISTSERV Welcome Message using a web browser:

1.      Point your web browser to the following URL:

                http://listserv.csufresno.edu/cgi-bin/wa

2.      Click the Mailing list management interface (list owners only) link.

3.      In E-mail address: field, enter your email address.

4.      In the Password field, enter your LISTSERV password.

5.      Click the Login or Login and save my password in a cookie button.

6.      If you have more than one list, pick the appropriate list in the Listname menu.

7.      Click the Templates or the Edit mail and web templates button.

8.      Select Welcome message from the form menu.

9.      Click the Edit form button.

10.     In the Subject: field, type the subject of the Welcome Message.

11.     In the text area below the Subject: field, type a new Welcome Message or edit the current Welcome Message.

12.     When you are finished editing the Welcome Message, click the Update button.

To create or change a LISTSERV Welcome Message via email:

1.      Compose a new email message to:

                [log in to unmask]

2.      No subject is needed.

3.      In the body of the message, type:

                PUT LISTNAME WELCOME PW=THE.LIST.PASSWORD
                SUBJECT: SUBJECT.OF.WELCOME.MESSAGE
                TEXT.OF.WELCOME.MESSAGE

        where:
                LISTNAME is the name of the LISTSERV
                THE.LIST.PASSWORD is your LISTSERV password
                SUBJECT.OF.WELCOME.MESSAGE is the Subject of the message new subscribers will receive
                TEXT.OF.WELCOME.MESSAGE is the text of the message.

4.      If you do not want your signature to appear at the bottom of the Welcome Message, disable your signature file.

5.      Send the message.

6.      You will get an email indicating that the Welcome Message has been successfully stored.
